History

PowerServe began in 2016 when Kristine Delano got involved with YoungLife and saw firsthand the amazing job that YoungLife leaders did in mentoring teens in the Sebago area.  She wanted to build a legacy of service in our community and recruited a small group of volunteers to organize a day that would help our community, be fun, and enable all generations to work together.  Hundreds of students, school staff, parents, and Younglife leaders showed up to serve together on a beautiful day in May 2016.

PowerServe was dedicated to Shane Donnelly, who passed away at 16 years old and is remembered as a young man who loved helping others and bringing smiles to those around them.  The Donnelly family has donated the barbecue meal for the hundreds of volunteers each year.  Each year it is a labor of love and dedication to host PowerServe.

PowerServe continues because many caring people get involved and give a bit of time OR a great deal of time to make it happen.  Every bit counts! Meet our current leadership team.

Hundreds of people are given t-shirts and supplies, and organized into dozens of teams that go out to help residents and organizations in our community.  Everyone meets back hours later to share stories over a BBQ.

A few of the many survey comments from participants:

“love coming together and meeting new people, spending a day to commemorate Shane and just love on his family! I would love to be more involved to help with planning next year as a high school senior and young life club member :))”

“Thoroughly enjoyed this experience! Awesome job to the powerserve committee! There is a lot that goes into the day. Was amazed at the end of the project clean up crew that came around for brush and leaves, and also the planning and drop off of mulch and tagging!!”

“You guys are amazing! So Blessed to Serve with you. I'm in it for life!”

“Hats off to you all for pulling off a well organized, fun, purposeful event”
